Department: Engineering

Location: NxEdge - Morgan Hill

Job Summary & Job Duties

The NPI Buyer Planner is the end-to-end commercial execution partner for New Product Introduction. The role facilitates quoting in parallel with engineering and operations, converts awarded opportunities into executable supply and production plans, and maintains ownership through first-article approval, production readiness, and stable handoff to the sustaining materials organization.
This role reduces quoting and launch cycle time by creating a single point of accountability for supplier pricing, raw material, outside services, planning parameters, purchase-order readiness, and cross-functional follow-through. The position is expected to work at the point of use with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Sales, Program Management, suppliers, and site Operations.

Salary Range - 104K - 110K DOE

Minimum Qualifications

• Quoting facilitation: Coordinate the supply-chain workstream for every assigned NPI quote, maintain due dates, surface assumptions, and ensure supplier and planning inputs are complete before quotation release.
• Supplier and OSP sourcing: Issue RFQs, evaluate responses, clarify scope, compare total landed cost and lead time, identify qualified alternatives, and secure documented pricing for raw material, outsourced machining, and special processes.
• Quote governance: Maintain the assigned quote queue, aging, status, commitments, supplier dependencies, risks, and decisions so Sales, Engineering, and Operations have one current view.
• Planning and launch readiness: Translate quote assumptions into material requirements, planning dates, purchasing actions, and recovery plans aligned to prototype, first-article, qualification, and production milestones.
• Supplier execution: Place and manage authorized purchase orders; confirm acknowledgements; expedite critical items; reconcile open orders; resolve quantity, delivery, price, and documentation discrepancies.
• Cross-functional coordination: Run or support quote and launch reviews with Sales, Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, Program Management, and Finance; document actions, owners, and due dates.
• Product-realization control: Monitor the end-to-end material and supplier path until the product is manufacturable, inspectable, deliverable, and ready for stable production.
• Data and ERP discipline: Maintain accurate supplier, price, lead-time, MOQ, source, purchasing, and planning data in Epicor and approved tracking systems; support MRP and purchasing-suggestion accuracy.
• Risk management: Identify long-lead material, single-source exposure, supplier capacity, yield, tooling, revision, and OSP risks early; develop mitigation options and escalate decisions promptly.
• Continuous improvement: Standardize RFQ packages, supplier quote templates, routing/cost inputs, handoffs, reason codes, and launch checklists; help create reusable family pricing and sourcing knowledge.
• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant manufacturing experience.
• 3+ years of experience in buying, planning, sourcing, production control, NPI, program execution, or a related manufacturing role.
• Working knowledge of RFQs, purchase orders, MRP, BOMs, routings, lead-time planning, supplier management, and make/buy decisions.
• Ability to interpret manufacturing drawings, specifications, revisions, and basic process requirements sufficiently to source and plan work with Engineering support.
• Experience coordinating raw material, machining, and outside special processes in a deadline-driven environment.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Excel; experience with Epicor is preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to organize multiple priorities, drive closure across functions, and communicate risks clearly

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting semiconductor, aerospace, precision machining, coatings, plating, cleaning, or other high-mix / high-specification manufacturing.
• Experience with NPI stage gates, first-article or qualification builds, supplier qualification, and production handoff.
• Knowledge of total-cost analysis, supplier capacity assessment, price-break structures, minimum-lot charges, and outsourced manufacturing strategies.
• APICS CPIM/CSCP, ISM CPSM, or equivalent supply-chain certification.
• Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, and chemicals, with protective equipment provided as needed.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
• Regular walking, bending, and moving about the facility to supervise work conditions and interact with staff.
• Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 35 pounds.
• Must be able to wear necessary PPE (safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, etc.)
• Flexible to train in other work areas as needed.
• Must epitomize the Company core values: safety, excellence, and respect.
