POSITION DESCRIPTION

 

Job Title: Materials/Chemical Engineering Co-op

Location: Palmyra, NY

Reports to: Senior Materials Engineer/ Product Development Engineer

Semester: 2026 Fall/2027 Spring

 

Job Summary:

Working alongside our Engineering team performing R&D functions and experiments for the development of new polymer composites and products for specific applications in food, beverage, pharmaceutical and semiconductor industries. Supporting engineers to control and maintain the assigned materials and formulations. Conducting fundamental material-process research including literature review, and characterization of chemicals, fibers, fillers, polymers, technologies, and processes.

 

Essential Functions:

Projects assigned to this position could involve the following disciplines: 

  • Assist Materials Engineering team to research, resource, evaluate and validate new materials 
  • Prepare and track material/process/product validation tests and trials; write a report on findings 
  • Assist Product Engineering team to design new test fixture and establish standardized test method; research and develop new products and/or processes
  • Assist the enhancement of the digital transformation- laboratory information management systems
  • Follows safety procedures and keeps assigned work areas clean and orderly

 

Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

 

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum BS students who have completed their 3rd year for the following: Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering or related scientific field
  • Candidates should be highly motivated, self-starters, with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to research and solve technical problems creatively 
  • Demonstrated ability to develop a work plan, and work both individually and in teams to accomplish technical goals
  • Basic mechanical aptitude (ability to operate equipment, understand how a variety of test equipment operates, etc.)

 

Working Conditions: Laboratory; Manufacturing Floor, Office
