Electrical Engineer
-
Boise, Idaho, United States
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer for a temporary assignment of up to 12 months. This role will support critical automation and production-line development efforts, including electrical design, controls integration, and commissioning across workstreams such as automation EDA, robot/line systems, RFID/QR, safety systems, and test/queue stations. The ideal candidate brings strong electrical engineering fundamentals, hands-on implementation experience, and the ability to lead cross-functional execution from concept through build, debug, and handoff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and release control panels and machine wiring, including power distribution, grounding/shielding, and cable/harness routing.
- Integrate electrical systems for automation cells and production-line stations (e.g., internal/external inventory storage, flow, wash station, and RSP station).
- Partner with controls/software, mechanical, manufacturing, and safety stakeholders to define requirements and deliver integrated solutions.
- Help develop and mentor junior engineers by providing technical guidance, design reviews, and hands-on support during build, debug, and commissioning.
- Work with Sr Automation Engineer to design and integrate Robot Main systems, including interconnects, sensors, actuators, end-of-arm tooling electrical interfaces, and field devices.
- Implement and validate safety systems (risk reduction measures, safety circuits, E-stops, interlocks, safety PLC/relays) and support compliance documentation.
- Develop and integrate RFID/QR hardware (readers, antennas, cabling, power) and coordinate data handoff to controls/software.
- Support plant layout execution by defining electrical utility needs (power, network, air, and service drops) and coordinating installation constraints.
- Plan and execute bring-up, commissioning, and debug for line stations, including production line test queue and system-level testing.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation (as-built packages, redlines, test reports, and standard work) and drive issue resolution through closure.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience delivering electrical design and integration for automation equipment or production lines.
- Proficiency with electrical design tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or similar) including drawing standards and revision control.
- Experience with industrial control panels, field wiring, sensors/actuators, and power distribution (AC/DC) best practices.
- Working knowledge of industrial networks and interfaces (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, IO-Link, serial as applicable) and basic instrumentation.
- Demonstrated ability to plan and execute commissioning/debug in a fast-paced build environment, managing priorities and risks.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and clear technical communication.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with machine safety standards and implementation (e.g., ISO 13849 / IEC 62061 concepts) and safety PLCs/relays.
- Robot cell integration experience (FANUC/ABB/KUKA/Yaskawa or similar), including electrical interfaces to EOAT and peripherals.
- RFID/QR system integration experience (hardware selection, placement, interference considerations, and commissioning).
- Experience supporting factory/plant electrical integration (utility planning, panel installation, cable management, and as-built turnover).
- Test planning mindset: ability to create validation plans, execute experiments, and document learnings into repeatable best practices.
- Familiarity with NEC/NFPA 70 and NFPA 79 (or equivalent) and general industrial electrical compliance practices.
- Project leadership experience coordinating cross-functional deliverables across multiple parallel workstreams.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers/technicians and raise team capability through coaching, standard work, and knowledge sharing.
Benefits:
- Competitive compensation
- Flexible work schedule
- Opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects
- Collaborative and innovative work environment
