Enpro carefully considers a wide range of compensation factors including the background, education, training, and experience required, as well as geographic considerations such as cost of labor, and applicable local and state laws. These considerations can cause offered compensation to vary. The hiring range for this position is typically $77,200-$115,800 annually. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate. Bonus, gainshare, and/or equity may be eligible for this position. Enpro offers a range of benefits including, but not limited to medical, dental, vision, life, 401(k) matching, and other supplemental insurance options.​ 

FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL NATURE OF JOB:

As an Automation and Controls Engineer you will lead the way by helping Garlock navigate its Industry 5.0 phase by installing, troubleshooting, and improving current control systems for manufacturing equipment within existing industrial environments. Duties will include working individually and working with other team members. The Automation and Controls Engineer works on the development, maintenance, documentation, and troubleshooting of PLC, HMI, SCADA and PC systems used for electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls. This role will also lead the effort to modernize manufacturing and material handling processes through robotics and scalable automation systems.

GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Uses an in-depth knowledge of control systems to diagnose controls problems and implement irreversible corrective actions to eliminate the problems found.
  2. Mentor employees in the controls arena, enabling them to troubleshoot controls equipment on their own.
  3. Work independently with little to no direction on campus priorities.
  4. Collaborate with IT in implementing corporate driven network improvements.
  5. Researches and implements new software to solve campus controls and data acquisition problems.
  6. Solves complex problems using new perspectives from learnings on previous solutions to problems.
  7. Set engineering standards for robotic and automation integration in an industrial context.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Perform control level issue diagnosis and troubleshooting of different controller software and hardware components and be on call as needed. 
  2. Ability and desire to work in a hands-on manufacturing environment, partnering with skilled trades associates acting as a resource for electrical expertise and train plant personnel on the operation and maintenance of equipment.
  3. Maintain existing control systems in reliable condition, including program back-ups and all necessary software, support contracts, and licenses.
  4. Manage various contractors simultaneously during lifetime of multiple projects, acting as a liaison for internal and external resources.
  5. Perform hands-on start-up for process equipment (e.g., drives, PLCs, HMIs, instrumentation, and motor control systems). 
  6. Develop and complete process equipment validations and documentation.
  7. Draft new Procedures and Work Instructions, as well as training of staff for these expectations.
  8. Propose improvements to existing equipment and implement.  Train/support production and maintenance personnel on controls improvements.
  9. Document control system upgrades and equipment configuration changes.
  10. Continued education on controls and robotics related topics and keep up to date with industry standards and technology.
  11. Self-motivated, with a high level of initiative and a proactive approach to learning and applying new skills.
  12. Willingness to contact support vendors to work through issues with equipment when necessary.
  13. Function self-directed and can prioritize and complete multiple tasks, delivering results in a dynamic environment. 
  14. Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships across all levels in the organization.
  15. Compliance with all safety programs, policies, trainings, and procedures.

Qualifications:     

Education/experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering, or Automation (or other related fields).
  2. 5+ years of experience with manufacturing processes and automation systems
  1. Demonstrated ability to multi-task and prioritize different projects and workload.
  2. PLC software experience and aptitude.
  3. Electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic hardware control experience and aptitude.
  4. Ability to write, understand, and troubleshoot machine PLC software.
  5. Ability to read, understand, and create electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic control schematics.
  6. Ability to troubleshoot and debug electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic control circuits.
  7. Ability to manage multiple projects at once while maintaining project cost and schedule constraints.
  8. Ability to manage workload effectively, to plan, organize, and prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  9. Ability to work with other disciplines within the company.
  10. Ability to work independently and manage one’s time.
  11. Experience with industrial motor drive and control systems.
  12. Industrial networking experience.

Requirements:

  1. Flexibility with work hours and days (This facility operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays)
  2. Position is required to be on-call. This would include holidays and weekends potentially.
  3. Experience with email and MS Excel
  4. 2+years AutoCAD work experience on control layout design and schematics
  5. Ability to troubleshoot low voltage control and instrumentation circuits
  6. Familiarity with industrial networking (DeviceNet, Profibus, Ethernet) and SCADA systems 
  7. PLC logic programming experience
  8. HMI interface programming experience

Additional Knowledge a Plus:

  1. Working knowledge of “AutoCAD” or Solidworks, MS Project and MS Office is desirable.
  2. Knowledge of vision systems, industrial automation systems, and robotics is a plus.
  3. Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbally) with peers, management, vendors and customers.
  4. Self-motivated and customer-centric.
  5. In depth knowledge and familiarity with Allen-Bradley controllers and programming standards, familiarity with Siemens. 

WORKING CONDITIONSLaboratory, Manufacturing Floor, Office.  Some travel may be required, (5% - 10%)
