Job Summary & Job Duties

The Quality & Engineering Manager provides professional engineering and quality leadership for the facility by applying advanced knowledge of engineering principles, quality systems, and regulatory/customer requirements to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient operations. The role manages resources as necessary to ensure completion of engineering and quality initiatives; oversees the creation, interpretation, and revision of quality standards; ensures employees and operational procedures meet those standards; and champions process-improvement initiatives to satisfy regulatory and customer requirements and expectations, with the following responsibilities:
• Champion safety and ensure all employees wear necessary PPE and follow all safety policies.
• Manage the site’s Quality Management System, maintain ISO 9001 certification, and provide technical oversight for compliance to this standard, including planning, executing, and responding to audits.
• Identify areas of opportunity and develop plans for long-term improvements.
• Act as key contact with customers: responsible for ensuring execution of corrective actions and ongoing compliance with customers specifications.
• Prepare performance reports for relevant stakeholders, including management team and customers.
• Review and approve chemical processes on new contracts, review new contracts for feasibility, and communicate with customers as necessary to resolve any processing issues.
• Review and approve customer-supplied drawings and specifications prior to release for production by interpreting technical requirements (e.g., tolerances, finishes, and processing requirements) and exercising professional judgment; initiate appropriate corrective actions with the customer in the event of an error or discrepancy.
• Review and approve vendor instructions for outside processing of manufactured goods.
• Develop procedures and work instructions for the Engineering and Quality Control staff.
• Oversee technical investigation and resolution of customer complaints regarding quality or process performance, including root cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions, and verification of effectiveness.
• Collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to ensure that they meet quality standards.
• Ensure site quality records are current and accurate based on internal processes.
• Oversee product identification and traceability activities.
• Maintain systems at NxEdge for continuous improvement of quality issues (i.e. MRBs, CARs, scrap and quality escapes reported).
• Define inspection criteria and sampling plans for all areas of operations based on statistical analysis and risk, and develop/validate measurement and inspection methods as needed.
• Oversee training, skill development, performance evaluation, salary adjustment, and all disciplinary actions for the Engineering staff and Quality staff.
• Support and enforce Company timekeeping, meal period, and rest break policies, including ensuring employees are provided compliant meal and rest periods in accordance with California law and Company policy.

Minimum Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to perform work requiring advanced knowledge customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction, including independent analysis, interpretation of technical standards/specifications, and development of methods/procedures.
• Demonstrate In-depth understanding of engineering practices, quality control, and customer satisfaction.
• Be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Have good negotiating and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrate an ability to manage and supervise staff.
• Experience with 6-sigma / DMAIC initiatives.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Sound organizational skills.
• Must be proficient with computer systems such as Microsoft, Excel and Outlook, etc.

Preferred Qualifications:

Three years of anodizing or plating experience preferred.

Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (or similar engineering/science discipline) required; advanced degree preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, and chemicals, with protective equipment provided as needed.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position, often standing or sitting for prolonged periods.
  • Regular walking, bending, and moving about the facility to supervise work conditions and interact with staff.
  • Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 35 pounds.

Must be able to wear the necessary PPE (safety glasses, safety shoes, ear plugs, etc.)
