Product Test Engineer

JOB SUMMARY: 

Responsible for conducting product testing and supporting the Engineering and operations teams. This role involves supporting the Commercial team with proposals, quotes, orders, and planning testing of new projects. Requires the ability to coordinate activities across all departments in the organization to design and execute product testing. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Conduct various product tests, including but not limited to leak testing of metal seal products and assemblies using helium mass spectrometry, load versus deflection testing with universal testing machines, metallographic inspection, environmental cycling, and failure analysis. 

  • Assist in estimating testing costs and schedules for proposals, quotes, and planning. 

  • Sample preparation using hot and cold mount metal specimen mounting equipment. 

  • Support new product design revies and create new experimental test plans. 

  • Ensure testing compliance with customer and industry standards. 

  • Design inspection fixtures, test equipment, and occasionally manufacturing tooling necessary to experiment with current and future products. 

  • Clearly write, explain and support test plans, procedures, and results reports. 

  • Assist in continuous improvement and process improvement of leak testing and experimental protocols 

  • Conduct physical experimentation on products and components. 

  • Follow safety protocols, identify safety hazards, and mitigate safety risks. 

  • Occasionally travel to support customer testing or internal experimentation. 

  • Manage experimental laboratory hardware and software for scheduling and usage, and support business cases for upgrades and replacement of machinery and hardware. 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities. 

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Actively participates in Safety Committee Team and continuous improvement initiatives at the Columbia Facility. 

  • Performs any other assigned duties as directed by management. 

  • Travel may be required up to 10% of the time. 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from a four-year ABET accredited institution and 2 years of practical experience; or six years of directly related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  • Mass Spectrometry Leak Testing Level II certification is highly preferred. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. 

  • Ability to interpret drawings per ASME Y14.5. 

  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9001 manufacturing standards. 

  • Ability to work independently. 

  • Forward-thinking mentality to identify potential growth opportunities and investments that add value to the business unit. 

  • CAD experience is a plus, with a preference for SolidWorks experience. 

  • High precision pressure testing experience is a plus.  

  • A background in fluid dynamics is a plus. 

  • Experience with LabView or other data acquisition technologies is a plus. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
Sitting; standing; walking throughout the facility; talking; seeing; hearing; feeling; bending or stooping; squatting or crouching; reaching; kneeling; pushing; pulling; lifting up to 35 lbs.  The candidate must wear appropriate/required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and must be able to work at a desk or in front of a computer for long periods of time.
