Position Overview
The Buyer is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring assigned goods and services to support manufacturing operations. This position ensures materials are purchased on time, at the right quality, and at the best total cost. The Buyer uses MRP/ERP systems daily to manage demand, maintain accurate data, plan purchases, and support production continuity.
Essential Responsibilities
- Utilize MRP/ERP systems to plan, schedule, and execute purchases for raw metals, components, and related manufacturing materials.
- Identify, evaluate, and manage suppliers for assigned categories ensuring quality, reliability, and cost‑effectiveness.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, terms, and supply agreements with approved suppliers.
- Manage purchase orders from creation through closure, including tracking, expediting, adjusting, and resolving discrepancies.
- Monitor supplier performance, including on‑time delivery, quality metrics, and responsiveness.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with Engineering, Operations, Planning, and Quality teams to support production and new product development initiatives.
- Support continuous improvement efforts aimed at cost reduction, supply reliability, inventory optimization, and working capital improvement.
- Assist internal stakeholders in defining raw material requirements and identifying alternative sources when needed.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or related field.
- 2–5 years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment, including experience buying direct materials and services.
- Hands-on experience using MRP/ERP systems for demand planning, purchasing, and scheduling.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and supplier‑management skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Highly collaborative with a positive attitude, embraces the Technetics culture of Safety, Excellence and Respect.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred
- Experience interpreting technical drawings, specifications, and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with metal markets, machining processes, and commodity cost drivers.
- Professional certifications (CPSM, ASCM) are a plus.
