The Senior Design Engineer leads advanced-level mechanical design and engineering efforts supporting high-growth markets and strategic customer programs. The role serves as a technical authority within the NPI Applications Engineering team, owning complex design initiatives from concept through commercialization.
The Senior Design Engineer operates with a high degree of autonomy and is responsible for solving technically challenging sealing problems, driving manufacturable solutions, and influencing engineering standards and methodologies. This role provides technical leadership, mentors team members, and partners cross-functionally to ensure timely, cost-effective, and high-performance outcomes.

Lead complex mechanical design and development efforts for high-growth markets and strategic customer programs from concept through commercialization.
Serve as technical authority for assigned projects, independently determining engineering approaches for non-standard or advanced customer applications.
Perform advanced finite element analysis (FEA) and validation testing to ensure product performance under complex operating conditions.
Manage high-visibility prototype builds and product validation activities, ensuring alignment with cost, manufacturability, and timeline requirements.
Provide technical input for customer quotations, including feasibility assessments, estimated cost considerations, and development timelines.
Partner cross-functionally with Process Engineering, Operations, and Sales to ensure design manufacturability and operational readiness.
Lead technical problem-solving efforts, including failure analysis and resolution of key customer issues.
Provide advanced technical support and guidance to internal and external customers; visit customer facilities as required.
Mentor and train Design Engineers and team members in advanced design methodology and FEA tools.
Contribute to the development and improvement of engineering standards, design methodologies, and best practices.
Represent the company through technical presentations, professional organizations, or customer-facing engagements as appropriate.
Carry out assignments of substantial complexity with minimal oversight and a high degree of autonomy.
Actively participate in safety initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline is required, Master’s Degree in a related area preferred.
Minimum of 4 years’ experience in technical sales, design, or customer applications support is required.
Minimum of 3 years’ project management experience is required.
Advanced-Level Proficiency using SolidWorks or similar 3D solid modeling is required.
Advanced-Level Proficiency with ANSYS or similar FEA tools is required with demonstrated ability to perform complex nonlinear analyses and interpretation of results.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong problem-solving abilities are required.
Product design, development and implementation experience is required.
Experience in the design and fabrication of metal seals, fittings, or flanges is a plus.
Familiarity with NADCAP, AS9100, ISO9001, Six Sigma, & Lean Manufacturing is a plus.
Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment is required.
Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
Committed, dedicated and self-motivated work ethics, with full ownership of projects or assigned tasks is required.
The desire to strive for continuous improvement and excellence within a fast-paced growth environment is required.
