Operations Manager

The McGregor facility plays a critical role in NxEdge’s precision machining operations, including complex CNC machining, milling, turning, inspection, engineering support, and production execution for semiconductor components. The site also supports NxEdge’s Small Hole Drilling Automation Line capability, a strategically important manufacturing platform for gas distribution components and other high-precision semiconductor applications. Small Hole Drilling requires strong operational discipline, process consistency, quality control, equipment readiness, and close partnership across engineering, production, quality, maintenance, supply chain, and customer-facing teams.

 

We are seeking an Operations Manager for the NxEdge McGregor machining facility who is ready to lead within the Company’s core values of Safety, Excellence, and Respect. The Operations Manager will plan, direct, and coordinate daily operations across precision machining and Small Hole Drilling activities to achieve business goals related to safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and employee development. This role is responsible for driving operational execution, supporting customer commitments, improving production flow, developing team capability, enabling qualification and production ramp activity, and ensuring the facility is prepared to support current production as well as future growth.

OVERVIEW

• Reports to NxEdge VP of Operations.

• Based at the McGregor facility in Boise, Idaho.

• Provides operational leadership for precision machining and Small Hole Drilling production areas.

• Serves as a key site leadership partner to ensure the McGregor operation has the staffing, training, equipment readiness, process control, and escalation support required to scale Small Hole Drilling capability.

• Partners closely with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, HR, Finance, and Commercial teams.

• Supports semiconductor customer requirements, including high-quality manufacturing, on-time delivery, and continuous improvement.

• Estimated travel: 5–10%, based on business and customer needs.

 

JOB DUTIES

The Operations Manager is responsible for ensuring that manufacturing plans can be executed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with quality, cost, and delivery expectations. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Lead day-to-day operations for the McGregor machining facility, including CNC machining, production scheduling support, work center performance, and Small Hole Drilling Automation Line production activities.

• Drive performance against safety, quality, delivery, cost, inventory, productivity, and employee engagement objectives.

• Ensure all operations are conducted in accordance with Enpro and NxEdge policies, procedures, compliance requirements, and safety expectations.

• Build, coach, and develop a high-performing operations team, including supervisors, leads, machinists, technicians, and support personnel.

• Partner with HR on staffing plans, succession planning, performance management, employee development, disciplinary actions, and organizational capability needs.

• Work closely with Engineering to support new product introduction, routing accuracy, process documentation, cycle time validation, manufacturability reviews, and transition from development or qualification work into production.

• Support Small Hole Drilling Automation Line execution by ensuring production readiness, staffing and training alignment, process adherence, equipment utilization, inspection flow, documentation control, escalation discipline, and cross-functional coordination.

• Partner with Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to support Small Hole Drilling qualification activities, customer commitments, capacity ramp plans, and repeatable production performance.

• Promote process consistency and “copy exact” discipline where required to support customer qualification, repeatability, and scalability of critical semiconductor components.

• Translate Small Hole Drilling Platform requirements into clear daily management routines, including labor planning, training coverage, constraint identification, recovery planning, and performance escalation.

• Work cross-functionally with NxEdge’s Singapore location to facilitate copy exact alignment, ensure process consistency, support knowledge transfer, and coordinate operational execution for qualified semiconductor manufacturing processes.

• Collaborate with Quality to reduce scrap, rework, defects, customer escapes, and inspection bottlenecks while strengthening root cause and corrective action discipline.

• Partner with Maintenance and Facilities teams to minimize downtime, support preventive maintenance, plan equipment needs, and ensure production assets are reliable and properly supported.

• Monitor production schedules, backlog, capacity, labor utilization, and material availability to ensure customer commitments are met.

• Serve as a primary communication point across departments regarding product status, production issues, customer priorities, risks, and recovery plans.

• Provide timely operational updates, performance reporting, and escalation support to senior leadership.

• Support customer meetings, facility tours, audits, and business reviews as needed.

• Identify production constraints and lead improvement efforts to optimize flow, reduce waste, improve throughput, and strengthen on-time delivery.

• Champion Lean manufacturing, 5S, standard work, visual management, and continuous improvement practices throughout the facility.

• Ensure proper training, cross-training, and skills development are in place to support machining, Small Hole Drilling Automation Line, inspection, and production ramp requirements.

• Maintain strong control over budget, labor, material usage, overtime, scrap, rework, and other cost drivers.

• Reinforce a culture of accountability, teamwork, problem solving, and proactive communication.

• Ensure a safe working environment for all personnel and support compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and company environmental, health, and safety requirements.

SKILLS, ATTRIBUTES, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or related field preferred.

• 10–15 years of professional experience in manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role in a production environment.

• Experience in precision machining, CNC manufacturing, semiconductor components, or complex engineered products strongly preferred.

• Previous experience supporting semiconductor, aerospace, medical device, or other high-precision regulated manufacturing environments preferred.

• Familiarity with Small Hole Drilling, gas distribution components, high-precision hole features, flow-related requirements, or similar critical machining processes preferred.

• Strong understanding of production planning, work center management, labor utilization, capacity planning, and manufacturing cost drivers.

• Demonstrated ability to lead teams through change, growth, qualification activity, production ramp, and process improvement.

• Experience leading site readiness or production ramp activities for new manufacturing platforms, equipment lines, automation cells, or strategic customer programs preferred.

• Ability to read and understand technical drawings, travelers, work instructions, routings, GD&T concepts, and manufacturing documentation.

• Knowledge of Lean manufacturing, 5S, standard work, continuous improvement, and root cause problem solving required; Lean Six Sigma certification preferred but not required.

• Ability to research, compile, analyze, and interpret operational data.

• Strong written, verbal, presentation, and collaboration skills.

• Excellent interpersonal, coaching, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced production environment.

• High attention to detail with consistent accuracy and follow-through.

• Working knowledge of ERP systems required; Epicor experience highly desired.

• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and other business reporting tools.

• Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, customer satisfaction, and employee development.

• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling employee, customer, and business information.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Frequent walking and standing in a manufacturing environment.

• Ability to access production areas, observe machine operations, and participate in shop floor problem solving.

• Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds safely.

• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment when working in production areas.

• Must be able to work in an environment with manufacturing equipment, noise, moving machinery, and production activity.
