The Sr. Payroll & Compliance Specialist will be responsible for timely and accurate maintenance of employee data records within our UKG system as it relates to payroll; timely and accurate processing of payroll runs and adjustments; and working with Human Resources, Operations, Tax, Finance, Accounting, Auditors, etc. for reporting needs.

This position works closely with the Payroll Manager and supports the payroll function in a shared-services type of environment, supporting multiple business units.  This individual contributor role must be able to complete their payrolls independently, while collaborating with their business units and the payroll team as needed.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Preparation and processing of multi-state (30+) payrolls for exempt and nonexempt employees on a weekly & bi-weekly basis.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day payroll processes to ensure timely and accurate processing, maintaining compliance with all applicable Federal, state and local laws.
  • Input and/or upload and verify all payroll entries including deductions, earnings, gross ups, manual checks, new hires, terminations, adjustments, and manual checks in the payroll system.
  • Work closely with Human Resources regarding inquires, issues and procedures affecting payroll and HR.
  • Verify changes made by employees via UKG Employee Self Service, and managers via Manager Self Service, as it relates to payroll.
  • Responsible for creating, reviewing and analyzing pre-transmission and post-transmission payroll audit reports.
  • Ensure year end is closed and all processes are completed timely and accurately.
  • Build and edit reports according to various stakeholder’s needs using UKG’s Business Intelligence (BI) Reporting tool.
  • Respond to payroll inquiries in a timely and friendly manner, with a focus on accuracy and customer service.
  • Assist the Payroll Manager with identifying and implementing process improvements to help make the payroll process more efficient. 
  • Assist the Payroll Manager with developing and tracking payroll metrics, reporting tools, and KPI’s.
  • Train as backup on non-primary payrolls.
  • Participate in project teams to ensure appropriate payroll and system representation.
  • Assist or lead ad-hoc projects.
  • Additional duties as assigned to meet business needs.

QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATION/WORK EXPERIENCE

  • GED/High school diploma, Associates degree in accounting a plus.
  • Minimum five years of related payroll experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience with automated payroll vendor, preferably UKG. 
  • Experience with California and New York pay rules is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills, including research, troubleshooting, ability to interpret data and analyze information.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel & Word).
  • Strong communication interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet weekly and biweekly payroll deadlines.
  • Proven knowledge of standard payroll concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Payroll is processed every Monday, including company holidays and the week of Christmas and New Years, must be willing to work those days.
  • Highest level of integrity and management of confidential information.
