Maintenance Technician

Position Summary

The CNC Machine Tool Technician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing CNC machine tools and related manufacturing equipment. This role ensures equipment reliability, precision, and uptime while supporting production goals, quality requirements, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Machine Maintenance & Repair

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on CNC machining centers, lathes, grinders, and related equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and servo system issues.
• Troubleshoot machine alarms, control system faults, and performance problems.
• Replace and align machine components, including ball screws, spindles, bearings, motors, and way systems.
• Assist with machine installations, relocations, and commissioning activities.

CNC Controls & Automation

• Diagnose issues with CNC controls such as Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Haas, Heidenhain, or Mazatrol systems.
• Back up and restore machine parameters, programs, and machine configurations.
• Support automation equipment, including robots, pallet systems, tool management systems, and material handling equipment.
• Verify machine calibration and positioning accuracy.

Precision & Quality

• Conduct machine geometry inspections and alignment checks.
• Perform laser calibration, ballbar analysis, and machine capability assessments when required.
• Ensure equipment maintains process capability and dimensional accuracy requirements.
• Work closely with Quality and Manufacturing Engineering teams to resolve equipment-related quality issues.

Continuous Improvement

• Analyze downtime trends and implement corrective actions to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
• Recommend upgrades and improvements that increase machine reliability and performance.
• Participate in root cause investigations and corrective action activities.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all company safety policies and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
• Ensure all maintenance activities comply with applicable safety and environmental regulations.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree, technical certificate, or equivalent experience in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Machine Tool Technology, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience maintaining CNC manufacturing equipment.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
• Proficiency with precision measuring equipment and diagnostic tools.
• Strong understanding of CNC controls, with Fanuc preferred.
• Strong understanding of servo systems and drives.
• Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
• Strong electrical troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of precision machine alignment.
• Strong understanding of machine tool mechanics.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting high-precision manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of semiconductor, aerospace, medical, or precision machining industries.
• Experience with robotic automation systems.
• Experience with laser calibration and machine geometry.
• PLC troubleshooting experience, including Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar systems.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, and work around manufacturing equipment for extended periods.
• Ability to work from ladders, lifts, and elevated platforms when necessary.
